Typeforce 12 Installation

Drumcode is a generative audio visual piece that investigates new forms from the most ubiquitous shapes: letters.

The world we inhabit often appears fixed or restricted. Even the words we write, no matter how beautifully written, can be broken down to singular letters of the alphabet. I see this not as a limitation, but as a starting point for iteration.

I wanted to see how the familiar characters of the alphabet could be brought together to make unexpected forms. By intersecting 2D letterforms to make a plan for 3D structures, an unknown language begins to construct itself before the viewer — a remix of the alphabet.

Inspired by the non-alphabetic rhythmic vernacular of drum languages, the generative video acts as an additional percussive instrument, another layer for us to decode.
